Off-Grid AI Lets Customers Install Offline AI on Their Own SSD or USB Drive for $99.95

Seneca, United States - November 3, 2026 / Off-Grid AI /

Off-Grid AI has launched a Bring Your Own Drive option that allows customers to install offline AI on their own SSD or USB drive for $99.95 plus return shipping, giving users a direct path to running the company's offline survival AI system on hardware they already own.

How the Bring Your Own Drive Process Works

Customers mail in a drive that meets Off-Grid AI's technical minimums: 256GB or larger, USB 3.0 or newer, with a read speed of at least 150 MB/s and a readable hardware serial number. That serial number is how the licence is bound to the specific drive, which means the software is tied to the customer's hardware rather than an account or cloud profile.

Once the drive arrives, Off-Grid AI checks its real capacity, read speed and serial number. The drive is then erased, loaded with Off-Grid AI Core, and shipped back within 3 business days of arrival. If a drive fails any part of the test, the customer can either switch to an Off-Grid AI Carry drive by paying the price difference, with their own drive returned in the same parcel, or receive their drive back with a refund of the order, less return postage.

Why Drive Speed Testing Matters

The speed verification step reflects a specific technical concern: the label on a drive does not reliably indicate how it will perform under real conditions. In Off-Grid AI's own testing, a drive marketed as USB 3.2 Gen 2 -- a specification associated with high transfer rates -- produced the slowest first-launch time of the drives it measured. By contrast, Off-Grid AI's Carry drive reads at approximately 190 MB/s. Customer drives must read at 150 MB/s or faster.

"Customers already own drives they trust, and we wanted to give them a way to put Off-Grid AI on hardware that is already part of their kit," said Peter Zeppieri, founder of Off-Grid AI. "The testing step is there because USB labels have not been a reliable predictor of speed in our experience, and a slow first launch on a drive that should be fast is a problem we can catch before it becomes the customer's problem in the field."

What Off-Grid AI Core Includes

Off-Grid AI runs entirely on a customer's Windows or Mac computer with no internet connection, no account, and no subscription. The system includes an 18-subject cited library covering survival-relevant topics and offline US maps, making it functional in environments where connectivity is unavailable or deliberately avoided. Because the software operates locally, there is no dependency on servers, cloud infrastructure, or continued access to any external service.

The portable offline AI is designed to be used on any compatible computer the customer has on hand, rather than being locked to a single machine. For customers who prefer a complete package, Off-Grid AI also offers drives with the software pre-loaded, starting at $129.95.

Pricing and Availability

The Bring Your Own Drive service is priced at $99.95 plus return shipping. Customers are responsible for the initial cost of mailing their drive to Off-Grid AI. The option is available now through offgridai.io. For customers who want the convenience of an offline AI on USB drive without supplying their own hardware, the pre-loaded Carry drives remain available as a separate purchase starting at $129.95.
